Native American Oil Paintings by Millie Torres-Speeg
United States
Millie Torres-Speeg was born of Taino (Native American) Indian and Spanish ancestry. Her personal interest in the cultures of the Native Americans of the United States and the Indians of South America provides inspiration and a wealth of material. Her award-winning oil paintings convey compassion, love, and respect for her heritage.
Millie's interest in painting began in her childhood. After graduating from the School of Industrial Arts in New York she studied with such leading portrait artists as Daniel Greene, Kay Polk, Anna K. Singly, Frank Szasz, and Alex von Volborth. She has lived and traveled through the United States, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central America.
Millie now resides in Mountain City, Georgia, near the western North Carolina Cherokee Nation, and is conducting research to accurately portray the "Spirit of the Cherokee Nation" as well as the Taino Indians of the Caribbean and South America. She founded a non-governmental grassroots World Community Foundation, and is Liaison Officer for the United Confederation of Taino People for the State of Georgia.
A past president of the Albany, Georgia Artists Guild, her art work has been exhibited in Georgia, New York, and North Carolina.
