We do have a few facts about Sulaymonov's birthplace:  Uzbekistan is slightly larger than California with long hot summers and mild winters.  The literacy rate is 99%--1/3rd of the population is under age 14.  Uzbekistan is a doubly landlocked country, bordered by Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.  A person in a doubly landlocked country has to cross at least two borders to reach a coastline.  There are only two such countries in the world: Uzbekistan and Liechtenstein.

The Lonely Planet website describes Uzbekistan:  "...in the ancient cradle between the Amu-Darya and Syr-Darya rivers, the most historically fascinating of the Central Asian republics.  Within it are some of the oldest towns in the world, some of the Silk Road's main centres, and most of the region's architectural splendours."
