Bosnia and Herzegovina

On October 25, 1954, Sinisa Saratlic was born in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  At age 15, he sold his first painting.  He graduated from University of Sarajevo, Department of Architectural studies, with B.S. in Architecture.

His original paintings from 1979-1992 combined ideas taken from his national heritage, European history, romantic landscapes, and architecture, and were shown in galleries in Sarajevo, Belgrade, Dubrovnik, Korcula, and other cities.

With the start of the war in Bosnia, Saratlic and his family escaped from Sarajevo, barely saving their lives and leaving everything behind, including Saratlic's artwork.  Everything disappeared in the disaster of war.  From 1992 to 1997, Saratlic and his family lived in Belgrade.  They moved to the United States in December 1997 to begin a new life.

"When I look at beauty, I am inspired."

Saratlic says "I love art and I love architecture and I have always just followed my heart in that way.  My art is a celebration of the concept of inspiration.  The word 'inspiration' comes from the Latin 'in spiritus' which means 'in the spirit.'  When you are living 'in the spirit' you feel excited about yourself and your life.  Everything we see is a manifestation of divine energy and I believe in a divine power that controls all life.  When I look at beauty, I am inspired."
