Cora Ruck creates pastel works of African wildlife and women with wildlife.  The paintings are a reflection of woman's inner self and a belief that although women are different in appearance a mother is still a mother.  

Artist's statement

"I was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in 1973 and brought up surrounded by the beauty of nature which has given me a wonderful heritage.  I attended our local art college after school and attained a Diploma in Applied Art and Design.  Unfortunately I never put this to any use until moving to Harare [the capital of Zimbabwe], two years ago.  Being encouraged by friends and family I decided to sell my work commercially.  My Dad’s love and unique view of all creatures both great and small has had a great influence on my life and reflects itself in all my work. Through him I have learned to recognize and appreciate the invisible links and shared values that bind all living things together.

"It is with this in mind that I did my first painting in the 'woman' series. Looking beyond the exterior of a woman there is a wilder side to us all.  An affinity to nature and our shared struggle for existence.  In each of us there is of a lioness protecting her cubs with fierce determination against the odds or the tenderness, patience and love of a zebra helping her foal stand for the very first time."

Due to the chaos and turmoil in Zimbabwe, it is easy to understand why Cora Ruck does not have a website.  Against all odds, however, she somehow manages to create artwork.  Her email is eyesrus@zol.co.zw .
