Award Winning Oil Paintings by Djordje Prudnikoff
Yugoslavia

Djordje Prudnikoff is an award-winning master of the practice, techniques, and applications of traditional fine art portraiture.

In October 2001, Djordje Prudnikoff of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, was chosen to be a Guest of Honor at the second Montreal International Autumn Salon of Fine Arts, in recognition of his great and exceptional talent.  Prudnikoff was decorated with the "La Grande Médaille d'Or de Rayonnement Universel" ("The Great Gold Medal of Universal Renown") for the outstanding beauty of his paintings and his extraordinary talent as a painter.

This medal -- the highest distinction bestowed upon an artist by the Salon -- is the most prestigious award reserved for works of art among the greatest artists of the world.  The medal was remitted in recognition of Prudnikoff's great and exceptional talent, and to mark the crowning of his artistic career at the Salon.

He won First Prize in the Realism category in the International Art Contest in 1999 and again in 2000 (sponsored by www.artdept.com.au of Australia) for his painting entitled "Days of Happiness."  He has also received numerous awards and prizes for his graphics, ceramics works, and furniture design; his Italian design works have been exhibited in many European cities.  His paintings have been exhibited in Yugoslavia, Italy, Montreal, and the United States.

Djordje was born on April 19, 1939, in Uzice, to a Serbian woman, and a Russian father who had come to Serbia as a boy after the October 1917 revolution in Russian.  In 1946 the family moved to Belgrade. In 1975, Djordje began to express himself as a traditional fine art painter.  He became famous not only as an artist, but for his whole-page advertisements in daily newspapers which symbolized his reactions to certain occurrences, whether he approved of them or not.  At first, this way of communication represented his discontent with the contemporary art critiques that did not accept him or win his confidence.
