Toygun Orbay was born in Istanbul in 1956.  He graduated from Ankara Fen Lisesi high school in 1973 and Ankara University Faculty of Medicine in 1979.  He was a professor of neurosurgery in Gazi University Medical School until 2007.  Currently, he is in private practice.  

Orbay has had seven solo painting exhibitions to date.  He is also a playwright--his plays entitled "Checkmate" and "The Nine-Fifteen Train" were staged by the State Theaters in Ankara and Istanbul (2001-2002 and 2004-2005 sessions).  "Checkmate" has also played in the United States (Loose Ends Ltd. Little Theater, Auburn, New York 2005).  His last play, "Humanity, Here's To You" was staged in Cyprus (Gibetsu Theater, Girne, 2006).
