Hippolyte Flandrin, the official portrait painter of Napoleon III, a leading muralist of his day, is also known for his religious paintings, church decorations, and frescoes.  A student of Ingres, he won the Prix de Rome in 1830.  His brothers Auguste and Paul were also pupils of Ingres.  A more detailed biography can be read at http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06096a.htm.
