Sudjai Chaiyapan was born in Bangkok in 1969. He was graduated from Silpakorn University, Faculty of Painting, Sculpture and Graphic art. His style is often surrealistic and full of symbols. His latest art work focuses on love and relationships where bodies are surrounded by flowers, such as roses and lotuses. His emotions and experiences relating to his own relationships are depicted in a surrealist setting.
In addition to brush, he uses the edge of a cutter to produce very fine lines which creates the unique style. At other times, Sudjai's focus has been on environmental degradation such as in a series from the late 1990s.
In 1996 Sudjai participated in the Osaka Triennale in Japan; he won the ASEAN Art Awards in Thailand in 1997; and has won prizes from private corporations.
Sudjai Chaiyapan's painting entitled "The Way of Life from Imagination in the Year 2000", was one of the 12 international prize winners in the world's largest international painting competition. That painting and more information about the competition are at the end of this exhibit.
