Palitha Gunasinghe is from Meegahatenna in the Kalutara District of Sri Lanka.  From his childhood he had a flair for creative work, and he won many awards in art competitions.  He began his art career as a commercial artist, became an art director in an advertising agency, but gave up the job to become a full-time artist.  He has designed not less than 82 stamps, and he won the 2002 prestigious State Award and the 2004 Presidential Award for his watercolors.  A more detailed biography can be read at Gunasinghe's website.
