Grigor Khandjyan is considered one of the masters of fine art in Armenia.  He is well-known as an artist, a book illustrator, and a designer for large-scale tapestries on historical themes (for the latter, see the image titled "Cartoon from Vardanank tapestry" directly below).  Grigor's art career began as a genre painter.  His canvases and first illustrations for books by Armenian writers and poets revealed the artist's bent for lyricism and a sharp eye for, and love of, minute detail.  Grigor Khandjyan died on April 18, 2000.  He was 73.
