Oil Paintings, Naive Art by Aurelio Pernice
Italy
Aurelio Pernice, born in 1964 in Sicily, Italy, is a self-taught naive* artist who studied engineering at a university "with a formidable, wild, inborn, artistic talent." His paintings try to touch the truths of life with their blend of realism, history, folklore, humor, melancholy, and sentimentalism. His artwork demonstrates genuineness and purity of artistic impulse.
These viewer comments were taken from Aurelio's guestbook in Jan 2001.
"Very lusty and full of life" ...a "visual feast"... "[your work is] energetic and colorful"... "strong expression and warm colors provoke Meditteranean feelings"... "there's real feeling in your work"... "keep making Sicily beautiful"... "your paintings [show] vibrant life, the colours and the lifestyle... Italian life is smelling pasta, listening to Verdi... and hugging charming women... you are a sensual painter."

*Naive art or naïve art--The style of naive painting is characterized by a careful, simplifying approach, non-scientific perspective, bright colors, and often, an enchantingly literal depiction of imaginary scenes. Although not following any particular movement or aesthetic, naive painters have been a continuing international phenomenon and influence since the beginning of the twentieth century. The term usually refers to works produced by artists (also called naifs or naïfs) who had no formal training....[Used with permission from ArtLex - dictionary of art copyright Michael Delahunt 2005.]
